THE ST ERTH DIRECTORY

A potted history by Frank Nolan

The First Edition was produced in 1994.   It came about because at that time the Parish Council Chairman was the automatic Chairman of the Twinning Association.  We were given information that if we applied to the Parish Council we could obtain a £50 grant, providing someone attended a Parish Council meeting and applied in person.  Margaret Stockton volunteered to do this – I think she was probably the Secretary of the Twinning at that time.  We received the grant, but did not know what do with it, because it did not seem right to simply use it as if we had raised the money.  A regular newsletter was suggested and a sub committee of four selected to do a feasibility report.  This eventually ended up with Simon Hall, the Star Landlord, and I.  Both of us felt we could cope with an annual information sheet, basically funded by advertisements and the Parish Council grant to cover the cost.

Simon contacted the majority of those prepared to place an advertisements and I did the layout.  For the 1995 edition, I went to a Parish Council meeting and obtained another £50 grant.  After that, we no longer required a grant and after Simon left I carried on.
